It’s quite remarkable when you stop and think about how our produce down here has arrived at the point of harvest on our plot here in Alphington. Many hands and hearts have helped along the journey. From Very Edible Gardens teaching us and eager participants back in March how to build wicking beds, supplies coming in thick and fast from Fultons Garden and Supplies (our direct neighbours), Bulleen Art & Garden and CERES Environment Park Nursery and the team including our wonderful volunteers that give their time and energy each week to planting the seedlings and keeping a watchful eye watering, weeding and watching them grow. The produce has benefited both DIVRS and Reservoir High who have been using the produce in their urban food program and canteen, respectively.
We are thrilled to begin selling our winter greens veggie boxes to the community in August. The response so far has been outstanding and it’s great to see the support for a flourishing local food system. We are busy crop planning for our Spring and Summer debut and there may even be some interesting pantry add-on’s as we progress the box offering, so stay tuned.
